Africa’s Path to Global Commerce

Commerce panel at Moonshot

At Moonshot by TechCabal, Anu Adasolum, CEO of Sabi, outlined Africa’s opportunity to excel in global commerce by focusing on energy transition and artificial intelligence (AI). Speaking with Mudiaga Mowoe, CEO of Matta, she emphasized Africa’s wealth in minerals and agricultural commodities, vital for global sustainability efforts. Adasolum believes AI can revolutionize commerce by solving communication barriers in the informal sector, enhancing traceability, and integrating with familiar technologies like WhatsApp for improved business efficiency.

She stressed that AI doesn’t require businesses to overhaul existing systems but can be incorporated seamlessly to improve key areas such as customer engagement, order placement, and supply tracking. By applying AI to simplify processes and address inefficiencies, African businesses can strengthen their position in global trade. Moreover, the continent’s rich resources present a strategic advantage in the growing demand for sustainable commodities, giving Africa an edge in international commerce.

Adasolum concluded by stating that Africa can not only catch up with but also lead the way in the global value chain by capitalizing on these opportunities. As businesses focus on sustainability, energy transition, and technological innovation, the continent is well-positioned to play a key role in shaping the future of global commerce.
